Is this some type of memorial?
Sort of. You can find these marks in many parts of my city. They were placed exactly where stood the wall surrounding jewish ghetto.
Thank you.
Very interesting. Thanks for sharing.
This is interesting. Also a grim reminder of what happened there isn’t it?
It has to be reminded, this or other way… Not to make people upset but to make them think.
I think we need this sometimes – especially as when the years go by people tend to forget the horror.
Great memorial. How much area does it cover?
There are similar memorials in 22 points of the city marking the once existing borders of the ghetto. The size of the ghetto changed a few times between 1940 and 1943. The biggest area it covered was app. 2,6 square kilometers. The memorials are pictured here: http://warszawa.wikia.com/wiki/Pomniki_granic_getta
thank you! i can’t imagine what that must have been like, for the ones inside & for ones outside.
That’s a rather powerful reminder..
very poignant
A VERY powerful reminder. While these are not nice things to remember, it is important that they be remembered and I congratulate the powers that be that put this in place.
I’m glad too that such memorial came into being. But it took 65 years to create it…
It takes a long time to acknowledge mistakes – at least it’s ‘better late than never’.
Agree with Lynne, better late than never! Interesting way to do it though!
I think that you’ve managed to capture a powerful message in these two photos.
