Hard-working park squirrel having a well deserved lunch break

Squirrel

Dear Readers from US and Canada: this photo hasn’t been retouched. European squirrels ARE red! Except for UK, colonized and occupied by those grey Americans πŸ™‚

        1. Sometimes you need to run away from them! This one here is a member of squirrel population that live in one of the Warsaw parks. They just know that many people come there to feed them and are not affraid to come closer. One of them once even climbed to the top of my head…

  1. Red squirrels still exist in Britain — for now, anyway. We have black squirrels too, where I live, but they were introduced from elsewhere about a hundred years ago. Why, I don’t know. People should stop importing non-native plants and animals — it always seems to end badly!

    1. Yes, I heard the red ones still live somewhere in the deep woods waiting for revenge time to come πŸ™‚

In the biggest park in Warsaw where this photo was taken you can observe f.e. the growing polulation of mandarine ducks
originating from Asia. 4 or 5 years ago there were only 2 maybe 3 pairs of them that probably had escaped from some private breedings. Now there are about 50 mandarines there, but they seem to coexist easily with the majority of mallards. But who knows what happens next…

  2. It’s a gorgeous shot! I love it when you can see the reflection in his eye!
We have the red ones here … in abundance, but also the grey, bigger squirrel. Black ones too, but I haven’t seen them right here, where I live now.

Back home, we had only red..

A Big Thank You for the award! Need to read the rules thoroughly, then I’ll post it officially.
